Jamie is an Occupational Therapist within Evolving Potential working with children, youth, adults and their families in the Fleurieu and Strathalbyn, in a full-time capacity.
Jamie completed a Bachelor of Health Science (Master’s in Occupational Therapy) at Flinders University. It has been Jamie’s dream to work as an Occupational Therapist as she has always wanted to work with people, especially children, and loves the variety the role offers. Being able to work in the Fleurieu particularly makes Jamie happy as she grew up on the South Coast and is passionate about helping other children growing up in the area to reach their full potential and access more opportunities.
Jamie has been working with children since she was 16 as a surfing and swimming instructor, which has given her lots of experience in managing groups of children in high risk environments. Working in these roles Jamie was also able to gain experience interacting with children with Autism, which was a great learning opportunity. As part of her 8 week Uni placement Jamie worked predominantly with children with ASD, Cerebral Palsy, and ADHD/Behaviour Challenges, gaining experience in paediatric assessment and therapy both in and out of the classroom including, play therapy, sensory processing strategies, behaviour and emotional regulation strategies, including mindfulness, assistive technology, aquatic therapy and hand therapy. From this, Jamie has developed a particular interest in aquatic therapy and the benefits this can have for children, particularly those living with Autism.
In Jamie’s own time she loves being down the beach, having grown up competing in surfing and surf lifesaving; it’s clear Jamie has a real passion for the ocean. She also loves playing footy, hanging with friends, doing macramé, and eating ice cream.
